April Update

April has been a time to finish all our petals, events, and final chapters of our Journey through the Daisy Garden book. It has been a special time to review our accomplishments from the past year. We have had many fun events, many crafts, many dances, and many laughs along our Daisy Journey. I'm so proud of the Kiera, Chloe, and Gracie for being focused at meetings, good listeners, strong in their goals. We have completed the Daisy program in one year...which is normally a two year program. We have learned to trust each other to be prepared, to be honest and fair, respectful of each other, responsible, and to be considerate and caring. We have made crafts and "Thinking of you" cards so that we learn to put others in our thoughts first. We learn about the impact our words have on each other...even the ones we try and take back or make better. We have been strong and courageous in making friends, selling cookies, and being in front of groups. During the year we also used resources wisely by doing projects that could be use for something else later (our daisy bags to hold our books, planting basil to use in cooking, making SWAPs that can be used again or for multiple events). We held our first cookie sale with great success! I think it was fun for all and I can't wait to get all the products the girls earned, so I can pass them out at our final party. The girls earned themselves a half day riding camp for next month and paid for their uniforms and books. It has been a very good year. I have enjoyed growing with the girls and sharing in the experience.

I want to thank all of you for the support you have offered throughout the year. Vanessa, our cookie signs were amazing!!! Roy, thank you for being my second adult at some of of events! Crazy scene sometimes and tracking everyone down is not always easy. Terri, thank you for your support at our cookie booths. This year could not have happened without your support to me and the girls getting work done at home, and we THANK YOU!

Although we still have some time together this year, we are busy getting ready for next year. There are ceremony plans, countries to pick for Thinking Day, Brownie badges to plan, and Cookies to name just a few!!!!! I think it will be a great Brownie year. We will have a great group of girls and they each bring something special to offer in the Brownie work and planning. I'm looking forward to seeing more parents helping out with all the events, too.

I've got something in my pocket, it belongs across my face.
I keep it very close at hand, in a most convenient place.
I'm sure you couldn't guess it if you guessed a long, long while.
So I'll take it out and put it on, it's a Great Big Brownie Smile!

A circle's round, it has no end
That's how long I want to be your friend.

Daisy/Brownie Event at OHES

50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's -- Oh to have the old days back!  The girls all dressed up in their favorite era...from pictures!  :-)  They had a great time dancing and decorating cupcakes with many other games and crafts.  We have tons of pictures, but some are to blurry from all the dancing and jumping around.  This was another great Service Unit event and the girls had a blast.  Congrats to Chloe for wining best costume from the Daisy troops!

Combined Daisy Bridging Troops

On April 3 we joined Troops 2525 and 6673 for a combined troop meeting to meet the requirements for bridging.  In addition to petals we needed to learn something new from a Brownie Troop and teach something new to a younger troop.  In doing so we also completed and earned Violet/Vi “Be a Sister to Every GS”.   We had a nice brownie troop teach us the opening and closing flag ceremony.  The girls did several crafts, learned about the Brownie badges, and completed a GS promise bracelet.  We did not get to sing our song do to and illness but we passed out our cards with all the words for the other troops to take home.  They exchanged SWAPS and closed the event with dancing.

March Update

On March 18 we earned our Purple/Gloria “Respect Myself and Others” by learning how to take care of ourselves with morning and evening routines, daily exercise, and learning to recognize when friends need help (opening doors, listening, respecting personal space).  We worked on SWAPS for upcoming events.  We created a sister charm and beads to take to both our Brownie/Daisy events.  We also closed out our Cookie money this month and made our last deposit at the bank to pay council and deposit our troop proceeds.  Cookie update to come after Council closes out the year!

Upcoming Events Reminder:
Monday, April 1 -- Recycling, Green/Clover “Use Resources Wisely”

GS girl point-of-view on cookie sales

I like doing booth sales because it was fun and I got to see friends. I felt happy because we raised money for Girl Scouts. I liked spending time with my Mom at the Barnes and Noble Booth. And especially going around to the houses in our neighborhood and meeting some of our neighbors.  ~ Chloe

Our Fourth and Final Booth Sale for Daisy Troop 133

Giant at Franklin Farms was our very last booth sale for 2013 Cookie season.  Kiera was home sick and Gracie was by her self for a very short time.  Chloe soon joined her and the girls once again did an outstanding job selling!  Thank you to Roy for staying with us and helping although Kiera could not make it.
Although, we were out of cookies for a fourth time...we were sad to see the cookie season come to an end. We had to gather cookies from other troops to close out of Gift of Caring boxes for Cares2Fosters.
